Francis Paua: Master Barber, Educator, and CADMEN Co-Founder
Francis Paua: Master Barber, Educator, and CADMEN Co-Founder
Francis Paua has spent 25 years building a reputation as one of Canada's most respected master barbers. He has served athletes at the highest levels of professional sport, trained barbers who now teach globally, and built a training academy that draws students from across North America.
This page covers his background, his philosophy, and what he offers to barbers and shop owners who want to develop at the highest level.
25 Years in the Trade
Francis entered the barbering trade more than 25 years ago and has worked at every level since: building clientele from zero, running high-volume barbershop locations in the GTA, training the next generation of barbers, and coaching shop owners on the business side of the industry.
His career spans the full arc of what the trade actually requires: technical mastery, client relationship management, team leadership, and business operations. Each stage of that career informs how he teaches.
Athlete Clientele
Francis has worked with professional athletes across the NHL, NBA, TFC (Toronto FC), and CFL throughout his career. His client list reflects the trust that comes from consistently delivering at a level where appearance is professional and standards are uncompromising.
Working at the level of professional athletics requires precision, reliability, and discretion. These are standards Francis carries into every aspect of his training programs.
Training Barbers Who Now Teach Globally
Among the barbers Francis has trained and mentored are educators who now teach for L'Oreal and other international brands. This is one of the clearest signals of the quality of his teaching: not just that students learned, but that they went on to teach others at a global level.
The depth of technical knowledge required to produce educators at that standard is not common in the industry. It is the product of decades of deliberate practice, pattern recognition across thousands of clients, and the ability to break down technique into transferable instruction.
Co-Founder of CADMEN Barber Academy
Francis co-founded CADMEN Barber Academy in Mississauga, Ontario alongside business and operations partner Marina Victoria. CADMEN was built to solve a specific problem in the industry: the gap between what most barber programs teach and what actually produces technically excellent, economically successful barbers.
CADMEN's model is intensive and small-group by design. Maximum 3 students per session. Approximately 10 live haircuts per student in a 2-day fade course. Direct feedback from Francis throughout every cut, not just at review time.
Students have attended from across Canada and the United States, including Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and multiple US states.
What Francis Teaches
Fade courses
The 2-day intensive fade course is built around live client practice. Students work on real clients from day one, developing skin fade technique, taper blends, and clipper-over-comb transitions with direct guidance through each cut. The focus is not theory first; it is execution first, with mechanics clarified in context.
Beard courses
The beard course covers grooming technique, hot towel shaves, beard shaping, and the razor and scissor work that separates a professional beard service from a basic trim.
Scissors courses
The scissors course focuses on long hair technique, scissor-over-comb blending, and the skills that expand a barber's service range beyond clipper work.
Business coaching for shop owners
Francis also leads CADMEN's one-on-one business coaching program for barbershop owners. This is a separate engagement from the hands-on craft courses. It addresses pricing, staffing, client systems, and the operational mechanics of running a shop as a real business. The program is priced at $4,000 USD.
Francis Paua's Approach to Teaching
Francis teaches from observation, not from a script. He watches what a student is doing, identifies the specific mechanical issue causing an inconsistency, and corrects it in real time. Not at the end of the cut. Not in a group review. During the cut, while the student's hands are moving.
This approach produces faster improvement than most students experience in months of independent practice because the feedback loop closes while the muscle memory is still forming.
He also teaches the business and professionalism layer: how to manage the client interaction, how to understand what a client is asking for versus what they think they are asking for, and how to build the chair-side communication that turns a one-time client into a loyal rebooking.
