Barber Training Near Toronto: Why Barbers from Across Ontario Train at CADMEN in Mississauga

CADMEN Barber Academy is located in Mississauga, Ontario, directly west of Toronto and part of the Greater Toronto Area. Barbers from Toronto, Brampton, Oakville, Hamilton, and cities across Ontario travel here for the courses. So do barbers from British Columbia, Alberta, and several US states.

The question of why someone would travel for a 2-day barber course is answered by what is different about how the training is structured.

Why the Location Draws Students from Across Canada

Most barber training options available to a barber in Canada fall into two categories: long-duration programs that cover broad material at a general pace, or short workshops where you watch a demonstration and practice on a mannequin.

CADMEN runs differently. The fade course is 2 days. Students complete approximately 10 live haircuts over those two days, not mannequin heads. The class is capped at 3 students maximum. Master barber Francis Paua watches and corrects every cut, in real time, throughout the session.

That combination does not exist in most cities. When it is not available locally, students come to where it is.

The GTA Location

Mississauga is directly accessible from:

  • Toronto (30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic)
  • Brampton (15 to 25 minutes)
  • Oakville and Burlington (20 to 30 minutes)
  • Hamilton (40 to 50 minutes)
  • Vaughan, Markham, Pickering (45 to 60 minutes)

For barbers from further afield, Toronto Pearson International Airport is in Mississauga and offers flights from across Canada. Students traveling from Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Halifax typically fly into Pearson and are at the Academy within 20 to 30 minutes of landing.

What Courses Are Available

2-day intensive fade class

The flagship course. Students complete approximately 10 live haircuts over two days covering skin fade, taper, mid fade, high fade, scissor-over-comb blending, and lineup technique. Direct feedback from Francis Paua on every cut. Class size: maximum 3 students. Approximately $1,950 plus taxes.

Beard class

Hot towel shave, beard shaping, straight razor work, scissor technique for beard, and client consultation. Available as a standalone or alongside the fade class.

Scissors class

Scissor-over-comb, long hair cutting, point cutting, and blending. Uses mannequin heads for long hair work plus live client practice where applicable. Available as a standalone or alongside other courses.

Who the Training Is For

Both beginner and experienced barbers attend. Beginners come with no prior client work and leave with the foundation of a real fade on live people. Intermediate and experienced barbers come to identify and fix specific technical weaknesses that have persisted through years of self-directed practice.

Francis's approach focuses on what is specifically wrong in your technique for each student, not a standardized curriculum delivered identically to every person. The small class size is what makes that possible.
