Should you charge less for kids' cuts? The answer is NO!

Have you ever found yourself wondering whether it's a good practice to charge less for kids' haircuts? It's a topic that often comes up in many barbershops. We're here to explore why it might not be the best idea after all.

Time is Important:

You might have noticed that some barbers charge a reduced rate when they're cutting a child's hair. It might seem like a reasonable choice since kids typically have smaller heads, right? However, it's crucial to understand that the size of the head is not the only factor at play here, and in fact, cutting children's hair is often more work than an adult's cut.

When it comes to cutting a child's hair, it can sometimes take even longer than an adult's haircut because kids have a tendency to move around a lot. They might fidget, squirm, or become easily distracted during their haircut, making it more challenging to achieve the requested stylings. So, in reality, you're still investing the same amount of time and effort to provide them with a haircut as you would an adult client. Some children with certain types of temperaments or behaviors can be much more stressful to work with and you deserve to be fairly compensated for that effort.

How to Deal With Parents:

Now, you might be concerned about how some parents, especially moms, might react if you don't offer a lower price for their child's haircut. It's a valid concern, but effective communication is key in such situations. Politely explain to your clients what your pricing policy is around children and adult haircuts.

Here's the important part: even if a mom decides to take her child somewhere else in search of a cheaper rate, that's perfectly okay. By adhering to your regular pricing for kids' haircuts, you're ensuring two things:

1. Fair Compensation: You're being compensated fairly for your time and expertise. Your skills as a barber deserve recognition and fair payment.

2. Open Slots for New Clients: When a client leaves due to pricing differences, it opens up a valuable time slot for another client who understands the value of your service and is willing to pay your price.

It's all about valuing your skills as a barber and the time you invest in every haircut. While it might seem like a good idea to charge less for kids' haircuts at first glance, remember that the quality of your work and the effort you put into each haircut are what truly matter.
